Al-Hilal 0-0 Al-Ahli: Majrashi sees red in cagey clash between title rivals

Al-Hilal's lead at the top of the Saudi Pro League was cut down to just one point after they were held to a goalless draw by Al-Ahli.

Al-Hilal failed to maintain their three-point lead at the Saudi Pro League summit after a 0-0 draw with Al-Ahli at Kingdom Arena.

Following Al-Nassr's win over Al-Riyadh earlier on Monday, Al-Hilal now hold just a one-point lead in top spot, while Al-Ahli, who saw Ali Majrashi sent off late on, remain three points behind their title rivals in third.

Al-Hilal started on the front foot, with Darwin Nunez seeing a shot cleared off the line and another tame attempt held by Edouard Mendy, either side of Ruben Neves seeing a shot blocked shot.

The visitors started to gain confidence, though, with Galeno first firing off target before seeing a strike closed down by Kalidou Koulibaly after the break.

Al-Ahli continued to knock at the door while Al-Hilal registered just one shot in the second half, though captain Salem Al Dawsari did see a goal ruled out for offside with six minutes to go.

Matthias Jaissle's side tried to find a late winner, but perhaps overzealously, as Majrashi received two yellow cards in the space of eight minutes, the second coming in stoppage time for a late challenge on Theo Hernandez.

Data Debrief: Ibanez, the jack of all trades

It was certainly a poor attacking display from both sides, with Al-Hilal, who are reportedly finalising a deal to sign Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad, producing 0.19 expected goals from six shots to Al-Ahli's 0.78 from eight attempts, none of which were on target.

Al-Ahli failed to attempt a shot on goal for the first time in a Saudi League game since facing Al-Raed in May 2024. And despite the talents of Ivan Toney, Riyad Mahrez and Galeno, it was centre-back Ibanez who showed plenty of attacking threat.

He accumulated the most xG for his side (0.53 from two shots), created the joint-most chances (two), registered the most touches (60) and was successful with both of his attempted dribbles (a team-high), while also completing the joint-most interceptions.
